Why we should be helping

A small group of my friends are busy making things to sell at a craft sale we are organising in Petersfield.

We are using our skills to raise money for two charities which aim to find homes for abandoned and orphaned children in other countries. There are millions of children worldwide who are separated from their families due to wars, famine, disasters, disease, poverty, trafficking, abuse and neglect. Orphaned or abandoned, these children have suffered the biggest loss imaginable - their family.

The Bible teaches that God is our father. he loves us and provides for our needs like a father loves and provides for his family. He has blessed us with all good things.

Therefore, it is our responsibility to show God's love by helping the poor and fatherless. Because God loves all people everywhere. Psalm 68 says that God is "a Father to the fatherless... He sets the lonely in families."

As you enjoy your family, laughing with your children, being proud of them as they grow and develop, do not forget those who do not have the same opportunities.

James 1:27: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.
