Jesus not just for Christmas

Although this is being written before Christmas, by the time of publication it will all be over - Christmas that is.

At a time when it was popular to give endearing puplies as Christmas gifts, a slogan was current which reminded the recipients of the puppies that they came with certain responsibilities.

'A dog is for life, not just for Christmas', it said. Many of you may well have joined in carol singing and other seasonal activities and you will perhaps caught a little of what might be called the religious side of Christmas.

But I would like us to be reminded too that, 'Jesus is for life, not just for Christmas'. It is so easy to forget and to move on and not give Jesus another thought.

He did not remain a baby but grew into a man who in turn was a teacher, a prophet, a king and importantly a saviour and redeemer.

If we accept him, then he is with us throughout our lives, what ever they may be like - and beyond into eternity.

But 'Jesus for life' also in the sense that he came to bring life to us in all its fullness. As one paraphrase of the Gospels puts it so well, He came that we might have life, and life with a capital 'L'.
