Be Prepared

A few days ago my husband was laid low by a sudden attack of vertigo. He went out into his workshop, turned quickly and his whole world started to spin violently and continued so for several days.

Recently our newspapers and news programmes have reported stories of people whose lives have been lost or devastated in a few moments due to some unexpected disasters.

Living as we do in such a beautiful part of the country we do not expect sudden earthquakes, floods or landslides. Even so, none of us know what the next few days or even minutes hold in store. It is said that the only certainty in this life is that one day we will die!

Jesus told the story about a rich man who was prepared for this life but not for the next. His fields yielded a bumper harvest, so he built larger barns to hold it, saying to himself “Take it easy; eat drink and be merry”. But God said to him “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” (Luke chapter 12 verses 16-21).

In a few weeks time we will be celebrating Easter. A time when we especially remember that God’s son, the Lord Jesus Christ, gave up his life on a cross so that those who trust and believe in him could have eternal life. We can have the joy of life in heaven with him to look forward to, or we will have to face God in judgement. Are you prepared?
