Not Just for Christmas

Soon we will be taking down our Christmas cards and decorations. What memories will we have? Happy ones of family reunions and presents received, singing carols and joyful worship -or sadder ones of disrupted travel plans, loved ones no longer with us, debts to pay off or weight gain to lose. What, if anything, from Christmas will we take into the new year?

The Christmas message is most certainly for life and not just for Christmas. It is more than remembering Jesus' birth as a babe in the manger. It is a celebration of the great love of God, that He should come to earth and dwell among us. By taking human form, Jesus showed us what God is like -perfect love - healing the sick, preaching good news to the poor, setting the captive free. Finally he died for our sins, was raised from the dead and ascended into heaven. He is now at the Father's right hand.

Have we just celebrated something which happened 2,000 years ago? No! Because God still dwells in human beings today, in the person of the Holy Spirit. This gift is available to those who turn from their own ways, put their trust in Him and choose to live their lives His way - a gift for life, not just for Christmas.
