Faith Comment published in the Petersfield Post

2 May 2012: John Studd, Life Church Petersfield

The start of a new group in Petersfield: “Cuppa and Company”, offering refreshment and companionship for those who have been bereaved brought to mind a poem I wrote many years ago when a colleague’s son was killed in a climbing accident.

I should point out that I am not a poet – this poem came to me one night and I am convinced that God inspired it. I had not written another poem before nor written one since. I hope that it might help those who have been bereaved.

One Day

One day
You will laugh and sing and dance and play
One day
The pain will fade and dull
One day
Time will distance you from today
So that the view is wider
And loss no longer dominates the view.
One day
You will see the good, the happy, the funny
That was always there
But is now eclipsed by grief
One day
You will look loved ones in the eye and not shed a tear
One day
Routine will be routine again
One day
What was will be more important than what might have been

Always
Loved ones will love you
Always
Memories will remain
Always
You will remember

Never
Give up striving for a better future
Never
Stop doing that which only you can do

Never forget
God loves you
Always
