8 August 2012: Rosemary Davies Chair of Petersfield Area Churches Together
Fitness for Faith
On the television, radio and newspapers recently we have been inundated with information and stories about the Olympics. For someone like me who has never been any good at sport, I am very impressed with the athletes' dedication and determination to do their best as they represent their countries. All the training schedules they keep, attention to the best type of food they need and having support from their families and friends. Many go through this training but there will only be one gold medal winner.
In the same way that athletes train for their event, the writer of the letter to the Hebrew Christians in the early church urged them "to strip down, start running - and never quit!". Jesus began and finished the race we're in so keep studying how he did it. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over what Jesus did again - that will shoot adrenaline into your souls. The churches which make up Petersfield Area Churches Together offer study groups, prayer groups and worship in different forms to suit your own needs. Individual study is also important. All sorts of resources can be found to help with both group and individual study at the Unity Bookshop in Folly Lane.
So to be like the athletes we have been watching in the Olympics, keep in training with study and worship, encourage each other and become part of the team of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
