Faith Comment published in the Petersfield Post

17 March - Thelma Berry, St Mary Magdalen, Sheet

As I write this today, we are celebrating our golden wedding anniversary and have been touched by so many lovely comments from friends and family. But it could have been so different. We have heard people telling of occasions in their life and then added but - I can never forgive them/her/him for that.

One story was of a letters that arrived years ago saying something they did not like and keeping the letter as it could never be forgiven and I wondered what damage that did to the person who was keeping it.

Prison was mentioned in the Faith Comment recently and I remember someone serving a life sentence who had come out to live with us and said he had no family. This was not true - he had a sister but due to his many moves around various prisons and her moving around with her husband they had lost touch.

Eventually they were able to meet up again and he found he had a brother-in-law and a nephew as well.

Do we lose out by not keeping in touch with people? This applies even more to our relationship with God. Are you finding it hard to believe that there is a God who loves you and is waiting for you to make contact and to listen as well as see what he is saying to you?

We have many friendly churches in and around Petersfield where people would be only too happy to help you to get to the point where you can forgive others and yourself.

Go on and be brave and do it and God bless you.

See the list of PACT churches, visit their web sites and use the map to find their location.
