Pray for them

As we are currently having a good spell of fine weather and it is the month of May, it reminds me of the fortunate period I feel I had as a boy growing up on my parent's farm. Early summer was a great time with the pleasant countryside, flowers, animals and having fun riding my bike around the farm and taking in the great freedom of space we enjoyed.

There were chores to do of course to help get the work done and school to go to and exams to take. I made progress through exams and eventually moved on in life, but as I look back the future was always uncertain and I am sure at times I was worried. I believe that my mother who prayed for me and taught me to pray was a big factor in guiding me along a Christian path.

In today's society, I think the pressure on young children to perform, to pass exams and to find a career that suits them is daunting. As a parent and grandparent I appreciate some of this. We should pray for them, not only our own children of course, but also for all those that we know that are having to face decisions at this time of year concerning their future career or university choices. Let us pray for them that they will seek help and guidance from God the Father. Jesus showed love and concern for young people. He said "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these". Let us be part of that process for our young people too.
