Let your life speak

What a wonderful summer this has been so far this year. I was looking across to the Isle of Wight from the mainland the other day and was pleased to be able to make out the monument on the top of Culver Cliff just above Whitecliff Bay. A whole host of very happy memories came to mind as I remembered the times I camped with 2nd. Enfield Company of The Boys’ Brigade at that very spot.

As a teenager The Boys’ Brigade was my whole life. We just about had, as a family, a nine inch black and white television with an enlarger over the screen but to be honest my brother and I very rarely watched it as there was always something to be done in The Boys’ Brigade.

Sunday was always Bible Class at ten o’clock in the morning throughout the year. Monday evening was Drill night and quite contrary to popular belief this was a very well liked activity. Tuesday was Band night where I was taught how to play a Brass instrument. I am still playing over sixty years later in The Liss Band. Wednesday was First Aid which stimulated my desire to become a dentist. Thursday was Gymnastics, Friday youth club where I met my late wife and Saturday of course was cricket or football.

I was taught how to sail and for a number of years took parties of boys on the Norfolk Broads each Easter time to teach them to sail too. I am so grateful for all the really dedicated men and women who by example led me to accept Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord.

It is not what we say but what we do that has the most lasting impact.

The next PACT Prayer Day will be held TODAY Wednesday, 25 July, at The Salvation Army Hall between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. The day will be organised and run by members of Life Church Men's Group and the theme will be Praying for Men - all are most welcome.
