To residents of Petersfield, carols in The Square is as big a part of Christmas tradition as turkey and presents.
Every year, on a mid-December evening, hundreds of residents come together on a cold winter's evening to sing carols and hear readings.
In 2010 the cold and snow caused the venue to be changed to St Peter's. Music was provided by member of The Salvation Army band..
Jean Dowdeswell, chair of PACT and organiser of the Carol Service, believes that the event allows the community to come together to celebrate the joys of Christmas.
She said: "This annual PACT event has been running for a long time now and it is an opportunity for people to come out and sing carols and hear some traditional readings. I hope as many people as possible will come out to hear and take part in our traditional message of Christmas."
Mince pies, tea and coffle were served after the service and a collection was taken for two PACT supported charities, Home Start Butser and the Petersfield Counselling Service.
Thanks to the Petersfield Post which published the words of the carols in this week's edition.
